JIRA

             Atlassian, an Australian company developed JIRA in 2002. Bug tracking, issue tracking, and project management are all can do with this software. The full form of JIRA is derived from the Japanese term "Gojira," which means "Godzilla." This tool's primary function is to track issues and problems in your software and mobile apps.

JIRA used for?

Jira can be used for the;

  • Requirements and Test case management
  • In Agile Methodology
  • Project Management
  • Software Development
  •  Product Management
  • Task Management
  • Bug Tracking

JIRA Scheme

Everything may be configured within the JIRA scheme, which contains;

  • Workflows
  • Issue Types
  • Custom Fields
  • Screens
  • Field Configuration
  • Notification
  • Permissions

JIRA Issues and Issue types

What is the Issue?

            A JIRA issue would be used to track a bug or issue that is fundamental to the project. After you've imported the project, you may start creating issues.

Other important features can be found under Issues, such as;

  • Workflow's
  • Screens
  • Issue Types
  • Issue Attributes
  • Fields

Jira Issue Types

            All types of items that can be created and monitored using the Jira testing tool are listed under Issue Type. JIRA issues are divided into many categories, such as the new feature, sub-task, problem, and so on, as seen in the screenshot.

In Jira's project management tool, there are two sorts of issue types schemes:

Default Issue Type Scheme: All newly created issues will be automatically added to this scheme under the default issue type scheme.

Agile Scrum Issue Types Scheme: This scheme will be used for Agile Scrum issues and projects.

            Apart from these two issue-type schemes, you may also manually add schemes as needed. For example, we've built a Test scheme for which we'll drag and drop problem types from Available Issue type to Issue type for the current scheme.

JIRA Components

            JIRA components are sub-sections of a project. They are used to group issues within a project into smaller parts. I would take a look at managing components and Defining a Component for more information.

JIRA Screen

            When an issue is created in JIRA, it is organized and shown in distinct fields, which is referred to as a screen in JIRA. Workflow can be used to transition and edit this field. You can apply the screen type to each issue as seen in the screenshot. To add or associate an issue operation with a screen, go to the main menu, click Issues, then Screen Schemes, then "Associate an issue operation with a screen," and then add the screen according to the requirements. Now we'll learn about Jira Issue Attributes in this Jira lesson.

Jira Issue Attributes

Issue Attributes encompasses

  • Statuses
  • Resolutions
  • Priorities

               Statuses: Different statuses are used to indicate the progress of a project like To do, InProgress, Open, Closed, ReOpened, and Resolved. Likewise, you have resolutions and priorities, in resolution it again tells about the progress of issues like Fixed, Won't Fix, Duplicate, Incomplete, Cannot reproduce, Done also you can set the priorities of the issue whether an issue is critical, major, minor, blocker and Trivial.

Sub-Task

            Subtask concerns are useful for breaking down a larger problem into smaller tasks that can be allocated and tracked independently. It takes a more comprehensive approach to challenges and breaks down the task into smaller portions to complete.

Important points to remember while creating Sub-Task;

  • You can have as many sub-task as needed under an Issue
  • You cannot have a sub-task for a sub-task
  • A sub-task can however be converted into a parent issue
  • You can work on your sub-task without having navigating away from the parent issue
  • Once a sub-task is created under a parent, a parent cannot be converted into a sub-task

Workflows

            A JIRA workflow is a set of statuses and transitions that an issue experiences as it moves through its life cycle. The JIRA workflow consists of five fundamental stages once an issue has been detected.

JIRA Agile

            Development teams that follow a roadmap of planned features for future versions of their product typically utilize the Agile or Scrum method. Agile uses the same roadmaps as other JIRA techniques to track issues. We have one issue in Todo and the second issue in In Progress, as indicated in the screen photo below. When the issue in In Progress is resolved, it will be moved to the Done status, and the issue in Todo will be moved to the next stage, In Progress.

Kanban Board and Managing issues

            We may build a Kanban Board in the same way that we might construct an Agile Scrum board; in this case, we have named our project Teams in Space. The Kanban board can help a team manage and constrain their work in progress. In Work mode, Kanban boards are visible, but not in Plan mode.

             Kanban is considered the best methodology for bug fixing and maintenance release, where an incoming task is prioritized and then worked accordingly. There are a few measures that can make Kanban more efficient.

  1. Visualize your workflow
  2. Limit the work in progress
  3. Work on Issues
  4. Measure the cycle time

JIRA vs Trello

    Finally, Trello will be much easier to get started with. It's far more difficult to enrol your team and get started using JIRA because it requires proper setup and a steep learning curve.

  The main distinction between JIRA and Trello is the audience they are aiming for.
 Software developers, engineers, and product managers in medium to big enterprises are the primary users of JIRA. Trelloon the other handtargets small business freelancers, developers, and other contributors.
