SLACK

Slack is a multi-purpose communication and collaboration software. Instant messaging, voice and video calls and a set of tools to enable groups to exchange information and collaborate are all included. Slack is available as standalone software for Windows, Mac, Android, Linux, and iOS, as well as through web browsers. Here's a quick rundown of how Slack works.

Slack Workspaces and Channels

A Slack workspace, similar to a dashboard, is your team's home. Slack allows groups or teams to create a free workspace and then upgrade their plan if they need advanced capabilities like unlimited workspaces or assured uptime.

Users in a workspace create a directory, and all users can connect using instant messaging.

Members of a workspace can chat in Slack Channels, which are shared group chat rooms. Users can communicate with the entire team or specific individuals of the team through a variety of channels. Channels can be dedicated to individual teams, projects, conversation topics, or whatever else you choose.

Anyone in the shared workspace can access the channel, or it can be restricted to invited users. Team members working on a specific project, for example, can have their own channel, while the entire team can access a channel for general topics.

Use Slack Messaging and Calls

If you're starting a new Slack workspace, invite people to join it. If you want to join a workplace, you must first get an invitation. Slack messaging is simple and intuitive after you've joined.

On the left side of the page in Slack, you'll see a list of channels and direct messaging contacts. In the center pane, select a channel or a direct message between you and another member to see the messaging history. Slack's free plan allows you to save 10,000 messages, while subscription plans allow you to store more.

Slack's Advanced Features

Slack is more than just a chat application. Slack stands out as a great communication platform because of its variety of collaboration and teamwork tools. Here are some of Slack's more advanced features.

NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

Change your Slack notification settings so you can participate in a lot of busy Slack channels without being distracted by notifications. Limit notifications to just appear when you're mentioned in the channel, or when particular words related to your work are used.

Notifications can also be controlled on an automated basis. For example, you might wish to turn off notifications when you're not working.

TEAM TOOLS

Teams can use special language to bring the attention of a team member to a particular issue. To notify someone about an essential conversation, type @user's name into a chat message.

Slack allows team members to easily communicate files, images, and more. Slack keeps track of the content shared in channels and direct messages, making it simple to locate and reference. To find specific chat messages or shared data, use the search bar.

Slack App Integration

Workplace managers can integrate additional apps, such as Google Drive and Dropbox, to streamline filesharing in Slack for more advanced capabilities. Other activities, such as importing data from external tools or conducting brief surveys, can be handled using a number of bots. While these app integrations aren't an essential feature of Slack, they do make it more adaptable than other communication platforms.
